Mungos BarRock Freshers Week at Canterbury Uni

at #canterburyuni.

Dare to dream project travels the world with Astral

The first to dream this year was Teju Kareem @zmirrage in Lagos  Nigeria, Kareem wanted to celebrate the 80th birthday of Wole Soyinka poet laureate & recipient of the Nobel prize for Literature. 

Not one to do things by halves Kareem dug out a 1000 seat amphitheatre in the bush behind Soyinka's home in which to produce the play  dance of the Forrest with a cast of some 500. 

Kareem dared to ask me to fly out some projectors & a catalyst sytem with which to map the set pieces & a 40ft led screen sited up a mountainside. 

This was undertaken here's  a few pics in the post,

not many survive since during the production I was heavily sedated having contracted malaria, this is a phone snap of the mapping during line up , about all there is, the image spread over the rocks & that huge screen on the hill. 

 none the less I would not have missed the chance for the world & I look forward to the next time Teju Kareem calls me up with a new adventure. 

Castlemaine State Festival daring to dream in 2015

I was so lucky to be able to contribute during our uk winter to Castlemaine State Festival curtesy of Jimbelina of belt and braces productions in Victoria Australia.  

Ive been flat out with uk corporate since my return & it's only now I have a chance to catch up mid festival season in a an unexpected break. It's a cracking festival - concentrating on some expectionaly creative contributions & genuinely from around the world,

my only regret not being able to see too much due to my involvement. I was lucky enough to be involved  with the projection for this production - a magnificent site specific play with a video mapped set on the wall of the exercise yard of the old prison in castlemaine

I'm supremely privelidged to have been invited to contribute here this last week with such a varied line up of such high quality artists all committed 100% to building this event.

Project Fling takes on a life of its own - mondo mix bound

Due the astounding successes of last weeks mentoring project @flingfestival the project has taken on a life of its own & now #projectfling is working on transporting to @mondomixproject to help out there. What an outstanding & heartening response from a project pulled together on a whim by @culteventsteam. The project has outstripped all our expectations & certainly, for me, demonstrated how with a little effort we can sew a fresh creative seed. I can't wait to see what happens after this next adventure. 😃

Seeking to help creative light & projection project

It's that time of year again-  my corporate & foreign jaunts have served me well & I'm now once again able to look at getting involved in daring & #creativeprojects at #festivals & events again.

I'm particularly interested in those that are forward thinking & daring in the extreme & that just want to do something outstanding just for the sake of it.

Been away a while.

Well, there's  been a lot of shows in a lot of locations over the last year - Nuff said. I'm concentrating on predominantly creative projects again now & bolstering it up with a bit freelance work.

In the meantime the good ship Astral is finally getting back on an even keel & I've been starting to put www.productionrent.com together as a resource for those with less available to play with to help promote creativity in events- the site has a long way to go, however if you are putting a small event or festival together it may be worth looking at the festival and outdoor events pages for some cracking packages- first come first served basis.
